Since January 2002, NRC Research Press has published the Journal of Environmental Engineering and Science. During the seven-year history of the journal, the co-editors, Dr. Donald S. Mavinic and Dr. Daniel W. Smith, built a high-quality journal that was well respected by its community of researchers in Canada and around the world. Sales of subscriptions have unfortunately been very disappointing and are not forecast to improve in future. The NRC Research Press is a cost-recovery program within the National Research Council of Canada and has supported and financially subsidized the publishing of this journal for the last seven years. At this time, after much effort, NRC Research Press has regrettably determined that it no longer has the resources to support the continuing publication of this journal. The funds currently used to subsidize this journal will continue to support the development and enhancement of scholarly publishing services in Canada. Please note that papers that have already been accepted for publication in the Journal of Environmental Engineering and Science will be published in a special section at the back of the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, also published by NRC Research Press. Environmental engineering papers continue to be accepted within the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering. The last issues of the Journal of Environmental Engineering and Science will be November 2008 and a supplement to the 2008 volume. Back issues of the journal will remain available on the current Web site to past subscribers and all Canadians through the gracious support of the Depository Services Program of Canada.

Editors
Dr. Daniel W. Smith — University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy for Engineering; he was appointed the Canada Research Chair in Environmental Engineering in July 2002. He was the Director of the Environmental Engineering and Science at the University of Alberta and a co-director of the new Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Water Research. He is currently a co-PI in the Forest Watershed and Riparian Disturbance Project, an Environmental Engineering consultant, and affiliated with the University of Calgary Pine Creek wastewater treatment research facility.
Dr. Donald S. Mavinic — The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Dr. Mavinic is a full professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of British Columbia and Head of the Environmental Engineering group. He is a Professional Engineer in British Columbia, as well as a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, the Engineering Institute of Canada, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He has published more than 200 papers and technical reports — more than half of them in peer-reviewed journals.
